Iolite

Been hunting around the web for Iolite, found quite a few sources for readymade iolite jewelry, and cabs / beads / faceted pieces to make your own, but if you prefer tumblestones, or rough, it's not so easy to find. Still, I feel it's worth the hunt, as Iolite is a unique stone. Iolite is very tricky to cut, as it's pleochromatic and somewhat brittle along certain planes. Also, a lot of the stuff out there is dyed. Here are the places I've found for tumblestones:

You are quite correct. Iolite is a special stone. Thanks for posting the links.

I have one URL to add to your list.

http://garysgemgarden.com

I have found another name for this stone. It is sometimes called Water Sapphire.

Re: Iolite

I found some Iolite locally! So I got a string of good sized tumbled chips, about the sizes of a small to medium bean. Also I got a few faceted beads, for making stuff with a more finished look. They do not appear to be dyed. They are definitely pleochromatic, appearing dark blue, light blue, or golden brown depending on which directoin you turn them to the light. Iolite is a very interesting stone, not as pretty as some but very special energy. The pleochormaism reminds me of earth, sea, and sky, or our three souls. I am learning to make wirewrap jewelry, and I've made a few rings already. In her book =Love Is In The Earth=, Melody says that it's good to wear an iolite ring while doing shamanic work, as it helps to make sure your visions are accurate. I'm wearing one right now and it's buzzing on my finger! It will be interesting dreaming tonight.

I want to share the wealth! So if anyone would like a few of these iolite chip beads, just send me an envelope with your address and two stamps on it. PM to this message and I'll give you my mailing address. Thanks -- Joni

I agree completely. I always keep 6-10 tumbled stones of Iolite around, because I like the stone, and it is something I can give away when people report problems where I think Iolite will help. I also but tumbled Obsidian and Amethyst by the pound to give away with the Iolite.

As I told Dee earlier; I would have given her the stones; except for all of my belongings are boxed up in storage.

Iolite is not a pretty stone; but what it lacks in beauty; it more than makes up for in power.

That is a very sweet thing to do. Thank you for your willingness to assist your brothers and sisters.

Touche! ;-)

It may not be necessary to thank you for your generosity; but it was still the right thing to do. ;-)

Welcome to the message base. Iolite IS beautiful if a good quality stone is cut properly. There can be as many as three different colors visible in the stone.

I like the metaphysical properties of the stone very much.
